It is a core value at CVAS that each student has a unique pathway and it is our job to honour this by providing real world opportunities in their learning and experiences.
CVAS aims to provide students with the skills and knowledge to be job ready through the Regional Industry and Vocation Engagement and Readiness (RIVER) program. The RIVER program runs in various stages throughout the academic year with students undertaking a series of job readiness sessions in Term 1 before working on applications for potential industry placement in Terms 2 and 3. Industry placements will be sourced within the Clarence Valley and Coffs Coast region, building on existing CVAS business partnerships. During the placement period, students undertake a series of tasks based on individualised goal planning to develop skills. Upon completion of their industry placement, students develop these skills further by creating a project or folio of work to showcase their abilities.
Further to the RIVER program, all students will be exposed to careers days and skills based sessions such as resume writing and opportunities to complete certificates such as White Card Construction, Rural Fire Service Cadet Program and First Aid.
CVAS is working with the NSW Rural Doctors Network to expose students to employment opportunities in the Allied Health vocation. Students will have access to various Allied Health workers to discuss pathways and work experience opportunities. By making connections with various allied health professions, students are able to discover the many opportunities that exist in regional areas and seek advice on how to best access these pathways.
In 2022 CVAS is offering Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Construction. Through the VET program, students become dual accredited with students receiving recognition towards their HSC as well as a nationally recognised VET qualification. Students will undertake work placement on site to develop their skills further.
School based apprenticeships or traineeships (SBAT) are also supported at CVAS. SBATs allow students to complete an apprenticeship or traineeship as part of their HSC studies, fast tracking their vocational pathways.
CVAS helps students to connect to further education in TAFE and University. Students are exposed to various means of completing further education through university and TAFE tours and expo days while also building connections with the Country University Centre (CUC) based in Grafton.
Additionally, students have the opportunity to complete TAFE and some university courses while also completing their HSC studies, allowing them to begin exploring their after school pathways sooner.
